The only jazz festival to feature only female artists returns Labor Day Weekend.
The 4th annual Palm Springs Women’s Jazz Festival is returning September 2-4, just in time for Labor Day Weekend.
The Palm Springs Women’s Jazz Festival is the only jazz festival to feature only female artists, and the in-house band is made up of studio and live jazz players. Lucy and Gail Events are the festival organizers and the majority of the volunteers that work on the event are also women.
Presented by The Palm Springs Women’s Jazz and Blues Association, this festival includes concerts, exhibits, presentations, films and other events that promote an understanding and enjoyment of the work of women artists.
This year, multi-Grammy Award and Tony Award winner Dee Dee Bridgewater and Tony Award nominee Ann Hampton Callaway are on the schedule.
The weekend will kick off with the Opening Night Reception where The Jazz Masters Award will be presented to Dee Dee Bridgewater. Headlining Friday’s opening night 8 pm concert at the Annenberg Theater is the incomparable jazz legend Ann Hampton Callaway.
At noon on Saturday September 3, Cool Soul Jam featuring “The Saxtress” Pamela Williams will perform at the Indian Canyons Country Club. A noted musician, Williams has worked with a roster of rock, soul and jazz artists including Patti LaBelle and Queen Latifah.
Dee Dee Bridgewater will take the stage at 8pm on Saturday night for the headline concert of the weekend. Joining her will be the All-Star Band, including bassists Mimi Jones.
The weekend will close with the Tribute to Jazz Divas Sunday Brunch from 11 am to 2 pm at the Hard Rock Hotel. One of the most popular events, the brunch includes tributes to the great ladies of jazz, blues and soul. This year’s brunch includes tributes to Aretha Franklin, Rickie Lee Jones, Elena Burke, and Julie London.
